Within a text a semantic and syntactic relationship is established between the propositions that comprise it, generally through the use of links, which establish relationships between words and parts of the sentence. These links are prepositions and conjunctions.
Prepositions are subordinate links because they link one word or a proposition with another, to which it complements.: A storybook, I am going to see the doctor. Conjunctions are words that unite words, phrases or propositions in two different ways:
- By coordination, indicating relations of addition (copulative: y, e and neither), exclusion (disjunctive: o, u) and opposition (adversative: more, but, but, but, however, however).
- By subordination, to express comparison (as much ... as, more than, less than. Same ... as, better ... than), consequence (as much ..., that, later, with that, so), purpose (that, so that, in order that, in order that), concession (although, although, even though, in spite of the fact that, however much, however much), causes (which, because, then, since that, as, since, in view of that), condition (if, as, provided that, provided that, provided that), complete (that, if), of time (when, while, hardly, so soon as, before, whenever, as, in accordance), from place (where), so (as, according, as if).
Its semantic values can be of simple union, temporal relation, contrast, etc. Although there are no links, there are pauses in spoken language and punctuation marks that are not evident in written language.
-Run, escape, fly!
-Victory is sweet; defeat is bitter.
-José Carlos organizes races, tournaments, excursions.
