Correct use of predicate
- It must agree in number with the subject.
- It should use the appropriate tense.
- Be in the proper voice (active or passive).
May include:
- Participles, which are used to form the perfect and continuous tenses.
- Direct and indirect objects (if the verb is transitive).
- Other complements (which include object complements, adjective complements, and subject complements).
- Modifiers (if they are not a part of the subject).
´ Remember that predicates has a single sense and it can be a predicator in a sentence.
´ Predicates include words various part of speech such as common nouns, adjectives; prepositions and verbs.
´ Predicates are distinguished by their degree (one place, two places, or even three place).
Examples:
- When she got home, Amy found her toys scattered across the room. The predicate starts with the verb "found"
- My mom enjoys cooking and feeding us our favorite foods. The predicate starts with the first verb "enjoys"
- The cat slept on the bed. The predicate starts with the verb "slept"
- Mark was happy with his gift. The predicate starts with the helping verb "was"
- At the party, Jose's gift was the best. The predicate starts with the to-be verb "was"
