Coordination
With this procedure, the segments of a group (of sentences or lower units) are linked by means of a conjunction that performs the function of a link. For example, in: Ana y Marina participated, the Ana y Marina group works as a subject, just as each of its elements would do independently: Ana participated, Marina participated.
Unification is accomplished thanks to the connecting conjunction. The semantic relationships established between the coordinated sentences are recognized through various formal indicators:
• Coordinating conjunctions; are the most important. Its only function is to indicate the relationship between the propositions, without being part of any of them.
• Locutions (many times of adverbial origin), as nevertheless and nevertheless, also indicate coordination relationship. They function as sentence complements, and always appear between pauses.
